I suppose a few of you are wondering exactly how the "Anima" gene works. :3

First, I'll tell you about what happens when a member of a human society is found to have the Anima gene. Well, as you can imagine, having humans resemble animals would be considered an oddity in our society today, as it is in the story's society. Anima and humans are considered two different species, and thus separated from human society. And as it would be weird to have a relationship with an animal (O_O;;, Anima and human relationships are banned and considered taboo. Humans found associating with Anima are exiled from their village. As you know, Anima are born with the Anima gene, and have several identifying symptoms that separate them from the humans.

-The Transformation-
*Birth: Born with markings
*3 Years: Animal features begin developing
*7 Years: Animal features now obvious (usually shunned at this time)
*10+ Years: Animas now understand that they are different and go off on their own

Anima are shunned from the human world at the first few signs of the transformation. The first few Anima lived their lives as circus freaks, and faced prejudice and racial segregation until they were pushed to the edge. Anima are stronger than humans, have powers corresponding with their species, and live to be a very old age. The Anima took this to their advantage and teamed up to seek revenge upon the unjust humans. This event was called "Bird's Massacre" because the Anima general was a hawk Anima. The Bird's Massacre is what eventually caused the separation between the human world and the Anima world.

But, one can only get the Anima gene a certain way, and that is by having an Anima (or part Anima) parent.

*Pars Animalis + Careo Animalis= Pars Animalis or Careo Animalis
*Pars Animalis + Human= Careo Animalis
*Careo Animalis + Human= Careo Animalis or human (Very Rare)

*Pars Animalis: Born with marks, only Pars Animalis with 74% - 70% have distinct animal features (may have slight fangs or claws), has weak versions of Anima powers, and lives longer than humans

*Careo Animalis: Born with slight markings (only 49%-25%), acts more like their animal species than Pars Animalis (i.e. a dog Careo Animalis will dig holes in their backyard and chase cats), is stronger than an average human, lives to be 300 years old.
